Since its first publication in 1993, The Laws of Australia (TLA) legal encyclopaedia has become the staple reference tool of legal practitioners, academics and students. Teams of editors have contributed over the years to make TLA the well-respected publication it is today.

As this year marks TLA’s 21^st Birthday, we thought you might like to meet our local TLA Team. We took some time out from legal editing – which takes place in a converted 19^th century woolstore in Pyrmont, Sydney  – to walk 550m to Giba Park, on the corner of Darling Harbour and Sydney Harbour.

Although the current team is based in Sydney, we have also had editors in the past who have worked on TLA from Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

Our team comprises seven legally qualified legal editors who work through Subtitles covering more than 320 specific topics across 36 broad subject areas. Just last year alone, the team published a total of more than 10,360 loose-leaf pages. We also have one production editor, Wade, who manages our technical data, systems and media-neutral content.

Our editors come from a range of legal and professional backgrounds. Some of our editors have worked in journalism and publishing, while others have worked in small or large law firms, and in government and non-government organisations. They each bring with them different interests and specialties – from human rights to media and entertainment law – but all share a common goal of using their legal knowledge and research skills to ensure that TLA continues to serve the legal profession as it has now for 21 years.
