Leading experts Stanley Drummond and Peter Mann have provided the first updated material to Mann’s Annotated Insurance Law for 2025. Mann’s is part of the Insurance Practice Area on Westlaw and an essential service for practitioners. Update 1 for 2025 is now live on Westlaw with significant additions to the annotated material.

Update 1 of Mann’s Annotated Insurance Law for 2025 includes new and revised annotations to the Life Insurance Act 1995 (Cth) (LIA):
•    Part 2 (Explanation of key concepts);
•    Part 8 (Judicial management, other external administration and winding up);
•    Part 9 (Transfers and amalgamations of life insurance business);
•    Part 10 (Provisions relating to policies);
•    Part 10A (Prudential standards and directions); and
•    Schedule 1 (Dictionary).

Some of the additional material in the LIA is for sections that had not been previously annotated.

Annotations to s 912A (General obligations – “efficiently, honestly and fairly”) of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and for the unfair terms provisions of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (Cth) were also revised.

The additional annotations are key sources of guidance on the background of the provisions and their interpretation by practitioners and include very recent case law, for example, confirming that s 912A(1)(a) of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) has extraterritorial operation.
