Outgoing Patent Law in Australia author Colin Bodkin hands reins over to the Head of Allens Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys Linda Govenlock. 

Since its release in 2008, Patent Law in Australia by Colin Bodkin has been an essential resource for patent attorneys, intellectual property lawyers, and those seeking a deeper understanding of the legislation, implementation, and practices surrounding Australia's patent system.

Colin has continued to provide regular commentary updates to Patent in Law in Australia to Westlaw Australia, ensuring the service remains current for practitioners.
The related book, Patent Law in Australia, is now in its fourth edition. 

Colin has recently announced his intention to retire from his role as author. Thomson Reuters gratefully acknowledges Colin’s foundational work and his meticulous stewardship of this authoritative guide as well as his careful diligence in preparing and maintaining this publication.

Linda is an extremely experienced and highly regarded Australian patent attorney, whose career spans over 25 years and includes both private practice and in-house roles.

Linda is currently the Head of Allens Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys and specialises primarily in the chemical, industrial and life sciences patent areas, with a particular focus on pharmaceuticals, agrichemicals, medical diagnostics and therapies, and material sciences.

She has extensive experience in drafting patent applications and strategic prosecution of global patent portfolios, patent oppositions, re-examination proceedings, ownership disputes and as a technical advisor in patent litigation, in addition to advising clients in relation to patentability, patent validity, freedom to operate and IP strategy.
 
Linda is widely recognised as a leading expert in the area of patent term extensions for pharmaceutical patents. 

She is highly regarded in the patent profession and is recognised as a Managing IP Patent Star, IAM 300 Strategic Advisor and IAM Patent 1000 leading practitioner.

Linda is an active member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Issues Committee.

In addition to a Masters of Industrial Property Law, Linda has a BSc (Hons 1) majoring in chemistry and pharmacology from the University of Sydney and a PhD in organic chemistry, also from the University of Sydney.

Linda was awarded a prestigious Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Research Fellowship and completed three years Postdoctoral Research at the University of Durham, UK.
