Updated classification scheme for Environment and Planning

/
Content updates

Our dedicated team has worked meticulously to refine the taxonomy, ensuring it not only reflects the current landscape of environmental and planning law but also enhances user experience through improved logic and structure.

What’s New?

The terminology throughout the title has been updated to make the classifications more user friendly. In recognition of the importance of precedent in legal work, we've grouped case law from different Australian jurisdictions under similar legal principles in appropriate classification ranges, making it easier to compare and contrast cases across state and territory lines.

A terminology portion has been introduced to Planning to allow for quick reference to important legal definitions.

Numerous classifications have been developed into further subtopics to allow more detailed searches. These additions provide a more granular approach to the topics you care about.

Restructured for Intuitiveness

The taxonomy has been reorganised to be more logical and user-friendly, helping you navigate the complex legal landscape with ease.

Planning includes general matters concerning environmental planning and negligence of planning authorities, the making and validity of planning schemes and instruments, development control, and planning offences. It includes the operation of statutory controls, council consents and approvals, and other matters specific to planning.

Environment protection includes air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, noxious and offensive odours, and trades and premises, and waste disposal, and case law dealing with all matters relating to pollution offences.

Environmental impact assessment and approval includes all the different aspects of the power belonging to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and its implementation of the World Heritage Convention is covered under Heritage Conservation.

Environment and Planning is also where you will find case law in respect of trees, vegetation and habitat protection as well as Parks and reserves

Located within this same title is practice and procedure of courts and tribunals with environment and planning jurisdiction in each of the States and Territories.

Streamlined Research Experience

The new taxonomy scheme facilitates a more targeted legal research process. Whether you're delving into the specifics of Heritage Conservation or navigating the nuances of Environmental Impact Assessments, our taxonomy is structured to guide you swiftly to the information you need.

These enhancements are part of our ongoing commitment to providing you with the most up-to-date and user-friendly resources. We understand the complexities of environmental and planning law and strive to make your research as efficient and effective as possible.

We believe that these changes will significantly contribute to your daily work and look forward to your feedback.
