ACCC's third interim report proposes regulatory action to address Google's dominance in the search engine services market

On 28 October 2021, the ACCC published Digital platform services inquiry: Interim report No. 3 – Search defaults (third interim report) and choice screens as part of its Digital platform services inquiry 2020-2025.

Legal update: archive, ACCC publishes third interim report on web browsers and general search engine services as part of the Digital Services Inquiry outlines the findings of the ACCC's third interim report of the Digital platform services inquiry 2020-2025, which examined:

  • Market dynamics.
  • The provision of web browsers and general search services to Australian consumers.
  • The effectiveness of choice screens in facilitating competition and improving consumer choice.

The third interim report follows the publication of the ACCC's Digital advertising services inquiry - Final report (August 2021) (Final Report) for the Digital Advertising Services Inquiry. The Digital Advertising Services Inquiry looked into the markets for the supply of advertising technology services and advertising agency services.
