Practice note, Australian director identification numbers: Data protection and privacy issues provides an overview of the data protection and privacy issues relevant to the new DIN regime as introduced by Schedule 2 to the Treasury Laws Amendment (Registries Modernisation and Other Measures) Act 2020 (Cth). It covers the data protection and privacy regulatory framework applicable to the collection, use, disclosure and storage of DINs and related information held by the Australian Business Registry Services as the body responsible for administering the DIN regime. It also provides a brief overview of the relevant data protection and privacy issues for the collection, use, storage and disclosure of DINs by companies or authorised agents.
