Westlaw China has recently upgraded a number of key areas, content  and functionality. Some of these changes include:

Bilingual Alert

Westlaw China allows users to create bilingual (Chinese and English) alerts. If users create a new alert from the Alert Center, users can choose “Current Awareness - Chinese - English” on the Create Alert Page.

Bilingual Delivery

Bilingual (Chinese- English) delivery is available in Laws & Regulations database.

Note:
On Chinese –English document pages in Laws & Regulations database, Documents are delivered in different languages — Chinese-English, Chinese, or English. Users can save, email Chinese-English laws & regulations. Bilingual documents are shown with one Chinese paragraph and one English paragraph listed vertically next to each other (with the Chinese paragraph above the corresponding English paragraph). Users can print Chinese-English laws & regulations. In printed documents, the Chinese texts are on the left-hand side and English texts are on the right-hand side.

Exact Match & Broad Match

Two search methods will be offered in the Chinese Database after June 2010: Exact Match and Broad Match.

• Exact Match retrieves search results that exactly match the search term. Exact Match is inapplicable in search fields “Time” and “Key Number”. Search results via Exact Match through “Time”/”Key Number” and using connectors except “&” are identical to those via Broad Match.
• Broad Match will first segment the search query and then retrieve search results that match the segmented search terms.

Note:
Users who have defined search targets are encouraged to use the Exact Match method, which yields relatively concentrated and more pertinent results. Users who do not have defined search targets are encouraged to use the Broad Match method, which yields more search results because the segmentation will extend the search scope.

Feature Enhancements

• Alert in E-mail
  • Enhance the order of current awareness in Alert- E-mail. The order will be by Category.
  • Provide Westlaw China daily update info in Alert- E-mail.
  • Enhance the format of Alert- E-mail.
• Delivered Documents: After extensive technical implementation and testing, we are able to enhance the performance of delivered documents. Most delivery related issues are fixed.
  • Simplified TOC in Current Awareness database
  • Cancel the checked status of “Valid Only” in Laws & Regulations database
