Industrial Law reissue: a new classification scheme on FirstPoint
Industrial Law is one of FirstPoint’s major titles. It covers cases on workplace relations legislation from all Australian jurisdictions.
In late 2013, comprehensive changes were made to a large part of the Industrial Law classification scheme, with the intention of giving our customers access to judgments and case digests via a classification scheme that better reflects the extensive legislative changes made in the federal workplace relations area in recent years.
The new classification scheme maintains the basic division of cases by federal and State or territory jurisdiction, followed by chapters on legislation for specific industries and for work health and safety.
What’s new?
- a structure broadly consistent with current federal legislation
- headings that reflect concepts in use in the national workplace relations system
- more and detailed, specific headings (now 1,495), so that a researcher can quickly find and access case digests on relevant points of law
Case digests from State and territory jurisdictions have been retained for reference and research purposes. Of current relevance are those digests on subjects such as the State or territory public service, long service leave, retail trading, and the employment restrictions on workers in the interests of child protection.
Finally, the former chapter on Industrial Safety, Health and Welfare has been renamed Work Health and Safety, bringing it into line with model legislation adopted currently by seven of the nine jurisdictions. The chapter reflects changes in terminology in this area of the law and is divided into relevant subject areas. Also included is historical material such as case digests relating to former legislation on scaffolding and lifts, and factories.
