FirstPoint classification scheme updated - Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) renamed Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)
On 1 January 2011, amendments to the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) commenced, giving the Act a new name: the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). To reflect these changes, a number of changes have been made to the FirstPoint classification scheme to bring it up-to-date with these latest developments.
The most significant of the changes to the classification scheme is within the Trade and Commerce title. Here, the Chapter titled “Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) and related legislation” has been renamed “Competition, fair trading and consumer protection legislation”, reflecting the long title of the Competition and Consumer Act. Consequential similar amendments were also made to the Bankruptcy and Constitutional Law titles, replacing references to “trade practices” with references to “competition, fair trading and consumer protection”. In addition, specific references to the Trade Practices Act in the Banking and Finance, Constitutional Law and Private International Law titles have been replaced by references to the Competition and Consumer Act.
These changes are now live on FirstPoint.
