Getting to know Justice Giudice, President of FWA

When Thomson Reuters’ Workplace Review spoke with the President of Fair Work Australia, Justice Geoffrey Giudice, in June this year, readers met a man who enjoys the challenges of being the head of Australia’s leading workplace tribunal.

“Dispute resolution is an interesting field –it’s all about building relationships”, the judge said.

“(E)verything I do involves human relationships and addressing conflicts. Our aim is to assist to resolve these conflicts in a civilised manner.”

While his reputation as a dedicated professional of integrity, dignity and independence is well established, readers may not have been so familiar with Justice Giudice’s interests when he is off-duty. Time with family, bridge, golf, and the Melbourne Demons are all close to the judge’s heart – the theme of human relationships transcends the public / private distinction.

The September issue of Workplace Review publishes in this week, featuring an interview with a member of the NSW judiciary who previously worked with former Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev. This judge has closely considered the question of implied duties in the contract of employment.

Can you work out who it is?
