Victorian Court Changes

Major changes in practice and procedure in the Victorian Courts commenced on 1 January 2010, with the commencement of the Evidence Act 2008, bringing Victoria in line with the uniform evidence law in the federal, NSW and Tasmanian jurisdictions.

In addition criminal procedure will be overhauled with the Criminal Procedure Act 2009 and the Supreme Court (Criminal Procedure Amendment) Rules 2009, which also commenced on 1 January 2010.

In the January update of the service, all the relevant legislation relating to these changes will be published. Future updates will include insightful commentary from the author Gerry Nash QC on both the evidence legislation and the criminal procedure changes.
